Enneagram

The Enneagram is less about nine types of people and more about nine paths back to our authentically divine essence. The Enneagram does not put you in a box. It show you the box you have put yourself in and shows you a way out.

Why is the enneagram sacred to me? The enneagram saved my life. I had just left the corporate world at age 26—completely burnt out, physically, emotionally, & mentally. I still hadn’t dealt with my fathers death (when I was 14) & not to mention process other traumas. My coping mechanism to escape this exquisite pain was over doing just about anything. I lusted for the experience of being alive. I got a high off pushing myself through over working, over exercising, over cleaning, partying, multitasking, & staying busy constantly. The universe saw I had no intention of stopping & forced a screeching stop to my “overdoing” with chronic insomnia, Lyme disease & a host of other mysterious illnesses. Being sick was a blessing in disguise. During that time, I dove into the enneagram & saw how my dominant type 8 & my constant pushing was making me sick. To take ownership of the part I played in creating my illness was excruciating yet it was the most empowering thing I have ever done.

Do I still catch myself overdoing things? Of course. I am human. Do I still over do things to the extent I did when I was 26? Absolutely not. With the wisdom of the enneagram, I now recognize when I have gotten off track quickly. I am also equipped with tools that help my Eight personality type return to balance. Things that I may have rolled my eyes about before I became obsessed with the enneagram like; inner child work, grief work, and mediation. Phattabi Jois says, “practice and all is coming.” Although he was talking about yoga, the same goes for the enneagram. It is a daily, moment by moment practice.

Quotes I live by…

Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment. - Eckhart Tolle

I will greet this day with love in my heart. And how will I do this? Henceforth I will look on all things with love and be born again. I will love the sun for it warms my bones; yet I will love the rain for it cleanses my spirit. I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will love the darkness for it shows me the stars. I will welcome happiness as it enlarges my heart and I will endure sadness because it opens my soul. - Og Mandino

Struggle as we may, "fixing" will never make sense out of change. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, join the dance. - Alan Watts
